AI Signals From CloudZero Gives Finance Leaders a Clearer View of AI Usage and ROI
TECHNOLOGY

CloudZero captures AI events the moment they happen, connected to the people and activities that drove them, so spend becomes a signal you can act on immediately, not a bill you read a month later.
As artificial intelligence adoption expands across organizations, finance leaders face a new challenge: understanding and controlling rapidly growing AI costs. AI tools are no longer confined to engineering teams. Today, sales, marketing, finance, support, HR, and legal departments are increasingly using generative AI to improve productivity and streamline workflows.
However, while AI investments continue to rise, many organizations struggle to determine exactly what they're paying for. Traditional reporting often shows overall spending totals without providing insight into who is using AI, which models are being used, or whether those investments are delivering meaningful business outcomes.
To address this challenge, CloudZero has launched AI Signals, a new cost and usage management solution designed to give finance and AI transformation leaders real-time visibility into AI spending across every provider and model.
Turning AI Costs Into Actionable Business Insights
Unlike traditional spending reports that arrive after costs have already accumulated, AI Signals captures AI usage events as they occur and connects them directly to the employees, teams, and activities responsible for generating those costs.
The platform categorizes AI spending by:
Individual user
Team or department
AI model used
Specific business activity performed
This approach allows organizations to understand not just how much they spent, but what that spending actually accomplished.
For example, leaders can see whether AI resources were used for prospecting, code review, debugging, content creation, campaign analysis, or more than 35 different business activities tracked by the platform.
Introducing Overview and Monitors
AI Signals includes two key capabilities designed to improve decision-making.
The first is the Overview Dashboard, which provides a comprehensive picture of AI consumption across the organization. It consolidates spending data across departments, providers, and models while showing the business activities that drove those costs.
The second feature, Monitors, automatically detects unusual spending patterns and alerts teams when AI consumption exceeds established thresholds. These alerts identify the people, teams, and activities behind the increase, helping organizations quickly determine whether the spending reflects productive work or unnecessary costs.
Why Visibility Matters More Than Ever
The launch comes as AI adoption continues to accelerate across the enterprise.
According to Wharton's 2025 AI Adoption Report, 82% of enterprise leaders use generative AI weekly, with adoption expanding well beyond IT departments into functions such as finance, HR, and legal.
At the same time, research cited by CloudZero from McKinsey found that AI spending can rise nearly fourfold as companies move beyond isolated use cases, while 93% of organizations exceed their AI budgets.
These findings highlight why many organizations are shifting their focus from simply limiting AI costs to understanding and optimizing them.
Helping Organizations Balance Innovation and Cost Control
CloudZero believes many companies have responded to rising AI expenses by imposing spending caps. While that approach can reduce risk, it can also limit innovation and slow high-performing teams.
AI Signals aims to provide an alternative by giving leaders the context needed to make informed decisions. Rather than seeing only invoices, finance teams can identify which AI investments are producing results and which activities may require adjustment.
As AI becomes a core business tool across nearly every department, solutions like AI Signals could play an increasingly important role in helping organizations balance innovation, accountability, and financial performance
