CVS Pharmacy Advances GLP-1 Care with New Programs Focused on Cost, Access and Adherence
HEALTH & BEAUTY

CVS Pharmacy introduces expanded GLP-1 resources to help patients stay on treatment.
CVS Pharmacy has announced a comprehensive expansion of its GLP‑1 support programs, designed to make these increasingly in‑demand medications more affordable, more accessible, and easier for patients to stay on long‑term. The initiative spans more than 9,000 CVS Pharmacy locations and MinuteClinic virtual care, offering a coordinated approach to cost, clinical guidance, and side‑effect management.
The announcement comes as GLP‑1 medications continue to surge in popularity across the U.S. for weight management and metabolic health. Yet cost, side effects, and lack of ongoing support remain the top reasons patients discontinue therapy. CVS Pharmacy’s expanded offerings directly target these barriers with new pricing options, pharmacist‑led support, and digital tools that guide patients from their first dose through ongoing treatment.
Lower, More Predictable Costs for GLP‑1 Medications
Beginning July 1, 2026, CVS Pharmacy will participate in the CMS Medicare GLP‑1 Bridge Program, enabling eligible Medicare beneficiaries to access select GLP‑1 medications for a $50 monthly copay through December 31, 2027. This program provides predictable pricing for medications that often fluctuate widely in cost.
For patients not eligible for Medicare support, CVS continues to accept:
Third‑party prescription discount cards
Manufacturer coupons
Manufacturer vouchers
These options can bring out‑of‑pocket costs as low as $25 per month for commercially insured patients using manufacturer coupons, or $149 per month for uninsured patients using manufacturer vouchers for qualifying medications.
Expanded Clinical Support From Pharmacists
CVS emphasized that access is only part of the equation, patients also need support to stay on therapy and see results. Pharmacists will play a larger role in helping patients manage common GLP‑1 side effects, understand dosing, and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
To complement this guidance, CVS is rolling out dedicated in‑store product displays featuring over‑the‑counter items that support hydration, protein intake, and relief from nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort, the most common early‑stage GLP‑1 side effects.
New Virtual Care Option Through MinuteClinic
CVS is also expanding access through a $49 MinuteClinic virtual visit, available in 47 states and Washington, D.C., connecting eligible adults with licensed clinicians who can evaluate and, when clinically appropriate, prescribe GLP‑1 therapy. The service is designed for adults ages 18–64 seeking weight‑management support without a recurring membership fee. Follow‑up visits are available for dose adjustments and side‑effect monitoring.
A Comprehensive Approach to Long‑Term Success
With GLP‑1 adherence challenges well‑documented, particularly among older adults, CVS Pharmacy’s expanded support model aims to help patients stay on therapy long enough to see meaningful results. By combining lower costs, clinical guidance, virtual care, and OTC support, CVS is building a more complete ecosystem around GLP‑1 treatment.
As demand continues to rise, CVS Pharmacy’s approach reflects a broader shift toward integrated, patient‑centered support for weight‑management therapies, ensuring that access, affordability, and adherence move forward together.
