DIRECTV Expands Access to Include LG Smart TVs.
In a major move to give consumers greater choice and eliminate the need for extra hardware, DIRECTV and LG Electronics have announced the launch of the DIRECTV app directly on LG Smart TVs. This integration, available for LG Smart TVs from 2021 and newer running on webOS 6.0 or higher, brings DIRECTV’s full suite of entertainment options directly to the customer’s television, all without the need for a set-top box.
The announcement comes at a pivotal time for sports fans, with the NFL, NBA, NHL, and college athletics all in full swing. The new native app ensures fans have seamless access to live sports, news, premium entertainment, and more than 100,000 on-demand titles.

This partnership is driven by a shared commitment to meeting consumers where they already are, on the devices they prefer. Historically, customers wanting DIRECTV’s robust package required proprietary hardware, but the native app simplifies the experience and enhances control.
The DIRECTV app on LG Smart TVs offers an intuitive and personalized viewing experience, including access to:
Signature Packages and Genre Packs™ (the industry’s first).
Free ad-supported TV (FAST) channels.
TV Everywhere access for satellite subscribers.
