Karen Gravois Elliott brings nearly three decades of experience in strategic communications, public affairs, and journalism.

As the global push for net-zero energy intensifies, the role of strategic communication has never been more critical. To navigate this complex landscape, Drax Group, a global leader in renewable energy and carbon removals, has announced the appointment of Karen Gravois Elliott as Vice President of Communications for North America.

Effective January 7, 2026, Elliott will step into a pivotal role, leading Drax’s communication strategy across the continent. Her remit includes internal and external communications, executive positioning, and managing the company’s reputation during a period of significant growth and transformation.

A Veteran of High-Stakes Storytelling

Elliott joins Drax with nearly 30 years of experience at the intersection of journalism, public affairs, and strategic communications. Her background is uniquely suited for a company operating in a highly regulated and scrutinized sector.

Most recently, she served as Vice President and Head of Communications and Publications at the U.S.–China Business Council. In that role, she managed global engagement on high-stakes geopolitical, trade, and regulatory issues. Her previous experience includes senior leadership at the Entertainment Software Association and a career in journalism with the Associated Press and PBS NewsHour.

“Karen is a highly respected communications leader with deep experience navigating complex environments,” said Deidra Jackson, Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Drax Group. “Her strategic insight will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen trust with stakeholders and advance our business priorities.”

Driving the Mission to Net Zero

Drax is on an ambitious mission to help the world meet its demand for secure energy while reaching net zero by 2040. With approximately 3,000 employees worldwide, the group focuses on three core areas: electricity generation, sales to business customers, and wood pellet production.

For Elliott, joining Drax represents an opportunity to amplify a story of innovation and environmental impact.

“It’s a privilege to join such an innovative enterprise making a measurable difference in the renewable energy sector,” said Elliott. “I am excited to share the incredible Drax story... as we continue to grow and evolve as a leader in sustainability.”

Education and Experience

Elliott’s foundation in storytelling is built on an undergraduate degree in Journalism from Louisiana State University and a graduate degree in Writing from Johns Hopkins University. Her career also includes time on Capitol Hill as a staffer for two U.S. senators, giving her a deep understanding of the legislative forces that shape the energy industry.

As Drax continues to expand its North American operations, Elliott’s appointment signals a commitment to transparent, expert-led communication that bridges the gap between complex energy science and public understanding.
