Loreto, Mexico is one of the 15 especially visit-worthy places Frommer's editors and authors think you should go in 2027.

Frommer’s has named 15 destinations to its annual Best Places to Go list for 2027, highlighting locations that offer timely cultural events, improved access, natural beauty and major anniversaries.

Selected by the travel publisher’s editors and contributors, the list spans five U.S. destinations and 10 international locations. The recommendations arrive as Frommer’s prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2027, continuing its longstanding emphasis on memorable and accessible travel experiences.

Five U.S. Destinations Make the List

Salt Lake City earned a place on the list as the historic Salt Lake Temple prepares to open to the general public for the first time since its 1893 dedication. The rare access gives travelers a new reason to explore one of Utah’s most recognizable landmarks.

Miami was selected for its evolving creative scene. New contemporary art trails and installations are transforming public spaces, expanding the city’s cultural appeal beyond its beaches, nightlife and established art districts.

For travelers interested in quieter surroundings, Frommer’s recommends Ely, Nevada. The small desert community offers dark skies and access to the mountains and remote landscapes of Great Basin National Park.

Cincinnati also received recognition for its growing arts and entertainment offerings. Highlights include the new $160 million Farmer Music Center, the 100-day ArtsWave festival and the redevelopment of the former Lunken Airport Terminal into a hospitality destination.

Rounding out the U.S. selections is “Dolly Parton’s Tennessee,” a journey through places associated with the entertainer and humanitarian. The experience stretches from Nashville to the Great Smoky Mountains, celebrating Parton’s cultural influence and regional roots.

International Picks Span Culture, Nature and Major Events

Outside the United States, Frommer’s selected Loreto, Mexico, an emerging coastal destination offering a more relaxed alternative to the country’s busier resort areas.

Uzbekistan made the list following the introduction of visa-free travel for Americans, creating an easier path for visitors interested in the country’s Silk Road history and architecture.

In Spain, Santiago de Compostela will mark a jubilee year, adding special significance to the historic pilgrimage destination. New Zealand’s Waikato Region was chosen in connection with its biennial Māori cultural festival.

Luxor, Egypt, is expected to offer one of 2027’s most dramatic travel experiences when a total solar eclipse passes over the region. Cartagena, Colombia, was highlighted for its literary festival, while Abruzzo, Italy, earned recognition for its collection of medieval towns and historic landscapes.

Remote Escapes Become More Accessible

Several selections focus on natural environments and improved transportation. The Austral Islands of French Polynesia will become easier to explore with the arrival of a comfortable overnight ferry service.

Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park was recognized for its conservation and preservation initiatives, making it a notable choice for travelers interested in protected landscapes and responsible tourism.

Kuala Lumpur completes the list as a new rail connection creates opportunities to travel from Malaysia’s capital toward the forested eastern side of the Malay Peninsula.

Together, the 15 destinations reflect a broad view of travel in 2027. From historic openings and cultural celebrations to rare astronomical events and new transportation links, Frommer’s selections prioritize places where the timing of a visit can make the experience especially meaningful.
