To address that gap, GoPro has introduced a new lineup of close-up filters designed specifically for its MISSION 1 and MISSION 1 PRO cameras. The accessories give creators an easy way to add shallow depth of field, improved subject isolation, and more polished visuals without complicated camera settings or post-production work.

Developed in partnership with PolarPro, the filters are available globally and are engineered to make cinematic-style shooting more accessible for vloggers, travelers, content creators, and filmmakers.

Bringing Cinematic Style to Action Cameras

The new filters are close-focus diopters designed to create greater subject separation and softer background blur, helping direct viewers’ attention toward the main subject in a scene. Made from durable, optical-grade multi-coated glass, the filters are designed to preserve sharpness and color accuracy while enhancing the visual aesthetic of footage.

Unlike traditional camera lens systems that require manual focusing adjustments, the filters use static focus and simply slide over the lens of a MISSION 1 or MISSION 1 PRO camera. They can also be mounted over a compatible ND filter for additional creative flexibility.

The result is a streamlined workflow that allows creators to achieve cinematic effects directly in-camera.

GoPro is offering the filters in two purchasing options:

A standalone PolarPro +0.5 Close-Up Filter
A Close-Up Filter Set that includes +0.5, +1, and +2 diopters along with a protective travel case

The +0.5 diopter is intended for everyday content creation, including travel videos, lifestyle footage, and vlogging. It delivers subtle background separation while maintaining a natural look. The stronger +1 and +2 options allow creators to achieve progressively more dramatic close-focus effects and greater background blur.

According to GoPro, creators can simply increase diopter strength to create shallower depth of field and more noticeable subject emphasis.

Addressing a Common Creator Challenge

One of the primary benefits of the new filters is their ability to significantly reduce the minimum focusing distance of the MISSION 1 camera system.

The filters support the following focus ranges:

+0.5 diopter: 19.6 inches (50 cm) to 59 inches (150 cm)
+1 diopter: 17.7 inches (45 cm) to 35.4 inches (90 cm)
+2 diopter: 11.8 inches (30 cm) to 19.6 inches (50 cm)

These closer focusing distances create new opportunities for creators filming themselves, products, or detailed subjects at arm’s length.

The launch comes as the MISSION 1 Series continues to gain industry recognition. Since its debut earlier this year, the platform has earned 14 awards from 12 different publications spanning consumer technology, photography, outdoor, lifestyle, and media categories.
