Kevin Burkhardt, FOX Sports’ lead NFL play‑by‑play announcer and MLB Studio Host, has been named the 21st recipient of the Pat Summerall Award, one of sports broadcasting’s most respected honors. The award will be presented at the annual Legends for Charity® Dinner on February 11, 2027, held at the NFL Headquarters Hotel, the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live, during Super Bowl LXI week.
Celebrating a Career Defined by Excellence
The Pat Summerall Award recognizes a national broadcaster or sports personality who exemplifies the professionalism, character, and community commitment embodied by legendary broadcaster Pat Summerall. Burkhardt’s rise from local reporter to one of the most prominent voices in American sports reflects the qualities the award seeks to honor.
Legends for Charity brings together hundreds of supporters, broadcasters, and industry leaders to celebrate individuals who have shaped sports media and contributed meaningfully to their communities. Burkhardt joins an elite list of past honorees, including James Brown, Greg Gumbel, Jim Nantz, Chris Berman, Cris Collinsworth, Al Michaels, Michael Strahan, Joe Buck, John Madden, Rich Eisen, Tony Dungy, Bill Cowher, Erin Andrews, Howie Long, Tony Romo, Hannah Storm, and Kirk Herbstreit.
A Red Carpet Event Supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®
The Legends for Charity Dinner is more than an awards celebration, it is a major philanthropic event benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, the world‑leading institution dedicated to treating and defeating childhood cancer and other life‑threatening diseases.
Since its inception 20 years ago, the event has raised nearly $16 million for St. Jude, helping ensure that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food. This allows parents to focus entirely on helping their child live.
St. Jude is the only National Cancer Institute‑designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children, and its breakthroughs are shared globally to improve treatment outcomes for children everywhere.
Tradition Rooted in Legacy and Impact
Created to honor Pat Summerall’s enduring influence on sports broadcasting, the award reflects the values he championed: integrity, excellence, and service. The ceremony has become a cornerstone event during Super Bowl week, drawing national attention and reinforcing the connection between sports media and charitable impact.
Burkhardt’s selection underscores his contributions both on‑air and off, highlighting his role as a trusted voice in NFL coverage and a respected figure within the sports community.
Looking Ahead to Super Bowl LXI Week
The 2027 Legends for Charity Dinner promises to be a marquee event during Super Bowl LXI festivities in Los Angeles. As Burkhardt steps into the spotlight as this year’s honoree, the evening will celebrate not only his achievements but also the ongoing mission of St. Jude and the legacy of Pat Summerall.
