Know Your Lemons App Aims to Close the Gap in Early Breast Cancer Detection for Young Women
HEALTH & BEAUTY

Know Your Lemons award-winning early detection app is the first to offer a risk assessment, screening plan, and self-exam reminders. Available on Google Play and Apple App Store.
Breast cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges facing women worldwide, and an increasing number of cases are being diagnosed in younger women. In response to this growing concern, the Know Your Lemons Foundation has launched a major update to its award‑winning mobile app, introducing new tools designed to improve early detection, boost confidence in breast self‑awareness, and help women better understand their individual risk.
The update arrives during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and coincides with the launch of the organization’s new#Lemonista movement, an initiative focused on helping women take a more proactive role in their breast health.
Addressing a Growing Need Among Younger Women
According to the foundation, a growing number of women under the age of 40 are discovering breast changes themselves, often before they become eligible for routine screening. Breast cancer is currently the leading cause of cancer death among women ages 20 to 49 in the United States and the leading cause of cancer death among women globally.
Early detection remains one of the strongest predictors of survival, yet many women have never been taught how to confidently recognize potential warning signs or assess their personal risk factors. The updated app was designed to address those gaps through education and personalized guidance.
Building Confidence Through Interactive Learning
The enhanced Know Your Lemons app uses educational games and interactive experiences to make learning about breast health more accessible and engaging. Users earn two symbolic lemons within the app:
Confidence: Understanding their own body and recognizing potential breast changes.
Intelligence: Learning about personal risk factors and developing a customized screening plan.
Once users achieve both milestones, they become a Lemonista, joining a growing global community dedicated to improving breast health awareness.
Combining Self‑Awareness With Personalized Risk Assessment
One of the most significant additions to the platform is the ability to assess personal risk and create a customized screening plan. The foundation notes that relatively few women have completed a formal breast cancer risk assessment, despite recommendations from the American College of Radiology that women undergo risk evaluation by age 25.
By combining self‑awareness education with risk assessment tools, the app offers a more comprehensive approach to breast health, helping users understand not only what to look for but also when they should consider screening.
A Mission Inspired by Real‑Life Stories
The organization points to stories like that of Lynsey White, who discovered a lump under her arm after seeing Know Your Lemons’ educational content on social media. Although she initially encountered skepticism because of her young age, she credits the organization’s awareness efforts with giving her the confidence to advocate for further testing that ultimately led to a breast cancer diagnosis.
Her experience highlights the importance of education and self‑advocacy, particularly for younger women who may not fit traditional screening guidelines.
Creating a Global Movement for Breast Health
The #Lemonista campaign transforms education into action by encouraging participants to share their accomplishments online using the initiative’s two‑lemon symbol. Supporters, including actress Carrie Preston, author Christine Handy, and breast cancer radiologist Dr. Anjali Malik, have already embraced the movement to help spread awareness.
Founded by Corrine Ellsworth‑Beaumont, the Know Your Lemons Foundation has already reached more than 2 billion people worldwide with its breast cancer awareness messaging. Through its updated app and the #Lemonista movement, the organization hopes to empower even more women with the knowledge and confidence needed to detect breast cancer earlier and seek timely care.
