Liza Minnelli marks the launch of her memoir, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, co-authored with longtime friend and collaborator Michael Feinstein, alongside Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Productions.

EGOT winner Liza Minnelli has released her memoir "Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!" while simultaneously announcing a scripted television project chronicling her life and career in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery.

The memoir, published by Grand Central Publishing on March 10, 2026, offers a candid look at Minnelli's legendary career while confronting her struggles with substance use disorder, recovery, and surviving in the public eye. Co-written with longtime friend and collaborator Michael Feinstein, the book draws from nearly two decades of recorded conversations between the two entertainment icons.

The project also features contributions from best-selling author and former Los Angeles Times New York bureau chief Josh Getlin, along with Pulitzer Prize and two-time George Polk Award-winning journalist Heidi Evans. An audiobook version will be available simultaneously with the print release.

Television Project in Development

The scripted television adaptation is being developed by Emmy-winning producer Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Productions. Haskell, who previously served as Executive Vice President and Worldwide Head of Television at William Morris Agency, has built his reputation producing family-centered programming, including multiple Dolly Parton projects.

The Minnelli project represents a creative shift for Haskell toward more mature storytelling while maintaining the high production values that have made his holiday programming successful across multiple networks.

Michael Feinstein's Expanded Role

Michael Feinstein has signed a multi-year agreement with Magnolia Hill Productions at Warner Bros. Discovery to compose and oversee all music for the company's projects. Under this arrangement, Feinstein will create original scores and serve as a producer on the Liza Minnelli dramatization.

"Sam, Michael, and I have all been inspired by the great Arthur Freed, who was critical in the success of my mother and father," Minnelli said. "Sam has given Michael his very own 'Freed Unit' to lead. No other production company in the 21st century has anything like this magic."

For Feinstein, whose career spans acclaimed recordings, Emmy-nominated specials, and sold-out performances at Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, and The White House, the collaboration signals a new chapter focused on producing while composing for film and television.

Magnolia Hill's Holiday Programming Success

In a recent interview with Frank DiLella of Spectrum, Minnelli expressed amazement at Magnolia Hill's prolific holiday programming output. The production company has been responsible for an impressive slate of seasonal content across multiple networks.

Recent Magnolia Hill productions include "The Waltons' Homecoming" on Hallmark and The CW, "A Walton's Thanksgiving" on The CW, both "Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors" and "Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love" on CMT and Paramount Global Cable networks, "Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square" on Netflix, and "Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas" on Amazon.

"Years ago, Sam was my trusted agent. Today, Sam, Michael, and I have formed a partnership," Minnelli told DiLella. "Over the holidays, I was astounded to see how much programming Sam and Magnolia Hill are responsible for each year. It's really amazing!"

A Creative Partnership Rooted in Classic Hollywood

The collaboration between Minnelli, Feinstein, and Haskell draws inspiration from Arthur Freed, the legendary MGM producer who played a crucial role in the careers of Minnelli's parents, Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli. Freed's production unit at MGM was responsible for many of the studio's most celebrated musicals during Hollywood's golden age.

By establishing what they're calling a modern "Freed Unit" at Warner Bros. Discovery, the trio aims to bring that same level of musical sophistication and storytelling to contemporary television production.

Minnelli is represented by Carrberry Companies and v2 Entertainment Group.

The memoir "Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!" is now available wherever books are sold, with the audiobook available on major platforms. Details about the television project's production timeline and casting will be announced at a later date.
