Mistlabs Unveils Ambi, a Proactive AI Assistant Built for Future AI-to-AI Communication
TECHNOLOGY

Ambi's ambient intelligence running across Apple devices.
Mistlabs, a developer of cross-platform ambient intelligence technologies, has officially launched Ambi out of beta on Apple devices. Unlike conventional AI tools that primarily respond to prompts, Ambi is designed to continuously build contextual understanding and provide assistance in real time.
The San Francisco-based company describes Ambi as a new category of AI that aims to anticipate needs rather than simply react to requests. The launch follows a $26 million Pre-A funding round led by Luminous Ventures and Huaqin, with the investment supporting the development of a future standalone AI wearable.
According to Peter Mo, CEO of Mistlabs, the company's goal is to explore what becomes possible when AI can understand, reason, and act continuously in real-time environments.
Moving Beyond Prompt-Based AI
Most AI systems today are designed to wait for user input before taking action. Ambi takes a different approach by maintaining ongoing awareness across supported devices and building a deeper understanding of user context over time.
Initially available on Apple platforms, Ambi operates across devices such as iPhones, Apple Watches, Macs, and MacBooks, allowing context and information to follow users as they move between devices.
Rather than functioning solely as a chatbot or meeting summarizer, Ambi is designed to act as an always-available digital advisor that can assist throughout the day.
The system continuously develops an understanding of a user's priorities, activities, and ongoing projects, helping it deliver more relevant suggestions and actions.
Introducing the Concept of AI-to-AI Communication
One of Ambi's most ambitious features is its planned support for agent-to-agent communication, which Mistlabs expects to introduce in the coming months.
The concept allows separate Ambi agents serving different users to exchange relevant context and coordinate activities on behalf of their owners. According to the company, this capability could eventually support:
Context sharing between AI assistants
Collaborative task coordination
Real-time meeting support
Automated negotiation assistance
Priority alignment between users
For example, during meetings, AI agents could communicate within user-approved permissions to identify shared goals, highlight potential conflicts, and help work toward mutually acceptable outcomes while conversations are still taking place.
Funding Future Hardware Development
The company's latest funding round will also help support development of a dedicated AI wearable device. While Ambi currently operates on existing Apple hardware, Mistlabs plans to expand into purpose-built devices that can provide additional context and more seamless interaction experiences.
The strategy combines software intelligence with future hardware innovations, enabling Ambi to gather context across a broader range of situations and environments.
The Rise of Ambient Intelligence
Ambi reflects a broader industry movement toward what many companies are calling "ambient intelligence," AI systems that operate continuously in the background rather than requiring explicit commands.
By combining memory, context awareness, real-time reasoning, and future AI-to-AI collaboration capabilities, Mistlabs is positioning Ambi as a platform focused on anticipation rather than reaction.
As AI continues to evolve beyond simple conversational interfaces, products like Ambi highlight how the next generation of intelligent assistants may function less like tools that wait for instructions and more like active collaborators that help users navigate work, communication, and daily life.
