A new mini‑documentary series, Threads of Connectivity, is pulling back the curtain on the invisible infrastructure that keeps modern life running. Produced by Nicely Done Productions and hosted on National Geographic’s global digital platform, the five‑episode series explores the engineering, technology, and innovation happening out of sight, from ancient tunnels beneath Rome to the evolving power grid supporting the future of electrification.
Five Companies, Five Critical Systems
Each episode follows a global company tackling one of the world’s most pressing infrastructure challenges. As AI adoption accelerates, electrification expands, and demand reaches record highs, these organizations are rebuilding essential systems to be smarter, stronger, and more resilient.
Boldyn Networks — delivering 5G across Rome’s metro system, serving 18 million people, in what the company calls Italy’s largest smart‑city connectivity project, all without disturbing the ancient city above.
Medtronic — advancing spine surgery through its AiBLE™ smart ecosystem, combining decades of clinical expertise with AI‑enabled planning, robotics, and real‑world data to support surgeons in one of medicine’s most complex specialties.

Carrier — transforming homes into intelligent energy systems that reduce grid strain and optimize how and when power is used. Carrier’s Nick Arch highlights the company’s 120‑year legacy of improving everyday life.
OATI — building software that stabilizes the grid as renewables and electric vehicles surge worldwide. As one grid operator explains in the series: “This is the time when electricity becomes a data product.”
