NINETYGO and Covestro unveil the R-GO Coffee Journey Series.

NINETYGO has unveiled the R-GO Coffee Journey Series prototype in partnership with Covestro, demonstrating how recycled coffee grounds and post-consumer plastics can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of luggage manufacturing. The announcement, made on Earth Day, positions the companies at the intersection of sustainable materials science and consumer travel products.

The prototype represents an evolution from NINETYGO's first-generation coffee luggage, which is currently available across North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. While the original series pioneered mixing recycled coffee grounds with polycarbonate, the new R-GO prototype integrates Covestro's post-consumer recycled materials to achieve measurable environmental improvements.

Material Innovation and Carbon Reduction

The shells of a standard 20-inch carry-on are engineered to produce 1.19 pounds of carbon emissions, representing a 67 percent reduction from the 3.4 pounds generated by traditional models. This improvement stems from using Covestro's Makrolon PCR solution, which reduces carbon emissions from 3.4 kilograms to 1.1 kilograms per kilogram compared to virgin Makrolon material.

The prototype also cuts virgin plastic usage by 33.3 percent per unit. All post-consumer recycled materials used in the luggage are validated by UL ECV Environmental Claim Validation and the Global Recycled Standard, which serve as industry benchmarks for recycled content verification.

Performance Testing

NINETYGO conducted internal laboratory simulations designed to replicate extreme travel conditions. According to the company, the R-GO series demonstrated durability performance exceeding key benchmarks of mainstream industry standards by 200 percent. The evaluations covered structural impact resistance, telescopic handle fatigue, and multi-terrain wheel endurance.

"100 percent implies something finished and static. We adhere to long-termism, focusing on constant innovation that evolves with the traveler," a NINETYGO spokesperson stated. "Our collaboration with Covestro allows us to achieve a seamless balance between environmental stewardship and high-performance engineering. We believe true sustainability is only achieved when eco-friendly innovation meets uncompromising durability and functionality."

Commercial Timeline

The production version of the NINETYGO R-GO Coffee Journey Series is expected to debut first on Amazon.com in the fourth quarter of 2026, with broader global availability to follow. The company has not disclosed pricing information for the new series.

Company Background

NINETYGO operates as a global travel lifestyle brand owned by Shanghai Runmi Technology Co., Ltd., a majority-owned subsidiary of Korrun Co., Ltd., which trades on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Founded in 2005, Korrun was China's first publicly listed company in the luggage and bag industry.

The company operates across two business segments. In business-to-business operations, Korrun serves as a global strategic partner to brands including Nike, Adidas, and Decathlon, with manufacturing bases in China, India, and Indonesia. In business-to-consumer operations, the company operates NINETYGO, partnering with suppliers like Covestro, DuPont, and YKK.

The R-GO Coffee Journey Series demonstrates how established manufacturing relationships and materials science partnerships can produce measurable environmental improvements in consumer products. The prototype's carbon reduction claims are based on Covestro's technical data comparing recycled materials to virgin alternatives.
