Now Available: AI-Powered Toast Ordering on Google Maps
TECHNOLOGY

New integration lets guests order directly from Toast restaurants through Google's Ask Maps feature, fueling discoverability for operators.
Toast, the global technology platform built for restaurant and retail businesses, has announced a major expansion of its partnership with Google: AI‑powered food ordering directly within Google Maps. Through Google’s new conversational feature, Ask Maps, diners can ask for restaurant recommendations or specific dishes, and instantly receive a Toast restaurant’s menu, complete their order, and check out in one seamless flow. The integration transforms Google Maps from a discovery tool into a full ordering channel, helping restaurants convert search intent into real revenue.
A Seamless Shift From Search to Ordering
Ask Maps allows users to request food by voice or text, for example, “Find me a great ramen spot nearby” or “Order a chicken burrito for pickup.” When the request matches a Toast‑powered restaurant, Ask Maps automatically surfaces the menu and carries the diner through the entire ordering process.
Toast’s Chief Marketing Officer and COO of Enterprise, Kelly Esten, describes the integration as a breakthrough moment:
“Now guests can go from searching within Google Maps to ordering from a Toast restaurant in one seamless motion.”
This frictionless flow helps restaurants capture demand at the exact moment diners are deciding what to eat.
Powered by the Universal Commerce Protocol for Food
The new experience is built on Toast’s ongoing partnership with Google and its role as a co‑developer of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) for Food, an open standard shaping how AI agents discover, order from, and check out with restaurants across Search, Maps, and Gemini.
As UCP evolves, Toast ensures restaurants maintain control over their menu, pricing, sales, and guest relationships, even as AI‑driven ordering expands across platforms.
High‑Impact Discovery Channel for Restaurants
For Toast restaurants, Ask Maps becomes a powerful new discovery engine:
Discovery at scale — Restaurants appear directly in Ask Maps results where diners are already searching.
From “find” to “do” — Guests move from browsing to ordering in one continuous action.
Commission‑free growth — Orders placed through Ask Maps flow through Toast’s first‑party system, avoiding third‑party commission fees.
This integration helps restaurants increase order volume without additional operational lift.
Driving Early Adoption With Toast Cash
To encourage diners to try the new ordering experience, Toast is offering $5 in Toast Cash for eligible orders placed through Ask Maps. This incentive helps restaurants generate early momentum while giving guests a reason to explore the new AI‑powered flow.
Shaping the Future of AI‑Driven Food Ordering
As conversational AI becomes a central part of how consumers search and make decisions, Toast’s integration with Google Maps positions restaurants at the forefront of this shift. By combining intuitive AI interactions with first‑party ordering, Toast is helping operators turn everyday searches into meaningful revenue, and redefining how diners discover and order food.
