New feature makes it easy for Strava users to raise awareness and funds for meaningful causes.

For the massive global community of athletes on Strava, every run, ride, or hike is logged as progress. Now, those miles can be tracked for something even bigger than a personal best: positive global impact.

Strava, the app for active people with over 180 million users, has announced a game-changing collaboration with GoFundMe, the world’s leader in online fundraising. The partnership launches the new "For a Cause" activity tag, making it seamless for athletes to dedicate their movement to inspire charitable action and raise awareness for causes they care about.

As the season of giving begins, this feature instantly connects Strava's highly engaged, motivated community with GoFundMe's expansive network of individual and nonprofit fundraisers.

Mobilizing a Global Community for Good

Strava’s community has always been motivated by purpose. The "For a Cause" feature taps into the deep, personal drive that pushes athletes, from seasoned runners to casual hikers, and channels that energy toward real-world change.

"At GoFundMe, we're focused on giving people easy and meaningful ways to support the people and causes they care about," said Tim Cadogan, CEO of GoFundMe. “Through our collaboration with Strava, we're giving a global community of active people a simple way to help one another, raise awareness, and support causes that move them.”

To kick off the initiative, Strava and GoFundMe are spotlighting a wide range of impactful nonprofit organizations, including:

  • American Cancer Society

  • Movember (men's health charity)

  • Achilles International (adaptive running)

  • Feeding America (hunger relief)

  • The National MS Society (multiple sclerosis)

How to Turn Your Miles into Money

The new feature introduces a simple, integrated suite of tools that connects your physical effort directly to your charitable goal:

  1. Start a Fundraiser: Begin by creating a fundraiser on the GoFundMe platform for one of the spotlight causes, a personal fundraiser, or a nonprofit of your choice.

  2. Connect Accounts: From your fundraiser dashboard on GoFundMe, link your Strava account. This automatically logs your completed miles, giving donors a clear visual of the physical effort dedicated to the cause.

  3. Log Activity & Tag: Start any one of Strava's 50 activity choices (running, cycling, swimming, etc.). Before posting, simply add the new "For A Cause" tag to your activity.

  4. Share and Track: Use the activity description to share more about the cause and drop in the link to your GoFundMe fundraiser, inviting your community to donate or share your progress.

By making it simple to integrate fundraising into an athlete's existing routine, Strava and GoFundMe are democratizing athletic activism. They are providing the platform for every personal goal to fuel a larger mission, ensuring that every effort, no matter the distance, makes a difference.
