Uber and Zipline Team Up to Bring Drone Delivery to Millions
TECHNOLOGY

Uber and Zipline are partnering to bring drone delivery to millions of Americans on Uber Eats.
Uber and Zipline have announced a landmark partnership that will bring autonomous drone delivery to millions of Americans, marking a major leap forward in the future of logistics. The collaboration integrates Uber’s massive consumer platform with Zipline’s Platform 2 (P2), a next‑generation delivery system engineered for quiet, fast, and precise home drop‑offs. The result is a new delivery experience designed to reduce congestion, cut emissions, and get orders to customers in minutes.
New Standard for Speed, Precision, and Quiet Delivery
Zipline’s P2 system is built for near‑silent operation, designed to sound no louder than “wind rustling leaves.” Its autonomous aircraft fly more than 300 feet above ground, making them nearly inaudible to people below. When a delivery arrives, the drone hovers at altitude while a fully autonomous delivery droid travels down a tether, navigates to the exact drop‑off point, and gently places the package, even on small surfaces like a patio table or front steps.
This system is engineered to be up to seven times faster than traditional car‑based delivery, completing a 10‑mile trip in about 10 minutes.
Uber’s Logistics Network Meets Zipline’s Autonomous Innovation
Uber’s delivery ecosystem, spanning food, retail, pharmacy, and convenience, will now be powered by Zipline’s autonomous fleet. The partnership aligns with Uber’s broader strategy to build the world’s most flexible, multimodal delivery network, expanding beyond cars and bikes into robotics and aerial systems.
Zipline already operates one of the world’s most advanced autonomous delivery networks, with over 200,000 commercial deliveries completed across the U.S. and internationally. Its FAA‑authorized Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations allow drones to fly long distances safely and reliably.
Transforming Delivery for Healthcare, Restaurants, and Retail
Zipline’s P2 platform is already being adopted by major organizations across sectors:
Healthcare: Michigan Medicine will use Zipline to more than double prescription deliveries from its in‑house pharmacy.
Restaurants: Sweetgreen is partnering with Zipline to deliver meals using 97% less energy than traditional automotive delivery.
Government & Global Health: Rwanda continues to expand Zipline’s role in national medical logistics.
By integrating with Uber’s marketplace, these capabilities will scale to millions of consumers across U.S. cities and suburbs.
A More Sustainable Future for Last‑Mile Delivery
Drone delivery offers significant environmental benefits. Zipline’s autonomous aircraft use a fraction of the energy required for car‑based delivery, helping reduce emissions and congestion. As demand for fast, sustainable delivery grows, Uber and Zipline aim to set a new industry standard for efficiency and environmental responsibility.
Milestone Moment for Autonomous Logistics
The Uber + Zipline partnership represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of delivery. By combining Uber’s reach with Zipline’s precision technology, millions of Americans will soon experience a delivery system that is faster, quieter, cleaner, and more reliable than anything available today.
